Issuing and Redeeming Rewards (or Gift Value) through Clover

Open the Clover Register

Select the item(s) the customer is purchasing.

(OPTIONAL CLOVER CUSTOMER AFFILIATION) Select customer from your Clover Customers database via Add Customer function from the Register screen to link your order with a specific customer, if applicable. If your linked customer exists in your loyalty program database based on EITHER a matching email address OR mobile phone number, you will not need to identify the customer below at the Swipe Card / Hand Key Mobile # prompt when selecting the Loyal Patron button to issue/redeem rewards or gift value.

Select green Pay button.

Before selecting payment type from customer to checkout select Loyal Patron button as shown below in the Other section.

When the Loyal Patron app opens and you followed above optional step to link your order with a customer that has a matching profile in your loyalty database then the patron's loyalty profile will automatically load on screen. If you have not linked a customer from your Clover Customer database to the order with a matching profile you have a few choices to identify the customer. You can EITHER swipe a new or existing gift card, rewards card, or combo gift/rewards card (if applicable) using the Swipe Card button. Alternatively, on the loyalty side, you can lookup customers by entering the patron’s unique 10 digit mobile phone number or use the Patron Search button to look up the customer by their name.  If you’re running a card-less loyalty program, your clerks will always do the lookup by mobile phone number or tap the Patron Search button to lookup by name.  If redeeming an eGift card, simply hand-key the 11 digit eGift card ID displaying on the customer's mobile device at the Card ID or Mobile # prompt.

After patron account identification the next screen will display the total amount of the checkout items from Clover Register in the Amount field of the Loyal Patron app.

The clerk cannot edit the top field (sales amount) since that value pulls from the Clover register (post tax total). At this stage the clerk has 2 options.  

Option 1:  Issue New Rewards without a Redemption

Tap Finalize to record the amount of money being spent by the customer to add sales credit to the patron’s loyalty account (Issue Rewards Only). This step will add loyalty credit toward the patron’s reward balance based on your program’s rewards settings defined in the back office under SETTINGS> Rewards Parameters. The screen will automatically return back to the Clover Register where your clerk can accept cash or credit card from the patron to complete the normal checkout process.

Option 2: Redeem Gift/Rewards Toward the Sale

When patrons desire to redeem either gift value or rewards balances, the clerk has 2 redemption options. The patron can EITHER tap the keypad icon next to the Redeem field to redeem a very specific amount as instructed by the patron OR the clerk can tap the Redeem All checkbox, which will cash out the patron’s available Gift/Reward balance(s) up to the amount of the sales amount. 

If there is a discrepancy between the total amount of the sale and the total redemption amount, the system will issue new rewards (if applicable) on the difference based on your program’s rewards settings defined in the back office under SETTINGS> Rewards Parameters.  

New rewards always issue on NEW money spent by the customer. Using the above image for illustration purposes with the Redeem All checkbox checked, $30 Sale - $21.92 Redemption = $8.08 in NEW money. Your patron in this example will be rewarded on the $8.08 he owes in cash or credit/debit card.  Tap Finalize to record the transaction.   

The screen will automatically return back to the Clover Register where your clerk can accept cash or credit card from the patron (if necessary) and complete the normal checkout process.

Issuing and Redeeming Rewards (or Gift Value) through Clover

This article covers how to issue rewards to patrons running an instant cash back rewards or milestone spending program structure. In addition, we’ll cover how to redeem EITHER gift value and/or rewards since the transaction flow is the same. The rewards issuance and redemption process uses a special version (Android app) of the same Virtual Terminal available inside your merchant back office that integrates with Clover Register.
